Bedale

Bedale is a traditional market town steeped in history and an ideal base for visiting the local area.

WHERE IS BEST FOR ME?

This charming market town in Lower Wensleydale is situated within easy reach of the Yorkshire Dales National Park.  Bedale’s history can be traced back to Saxon times. It received its Market Charter in 1251 and still hosts a market every Tuesday.

Splendid Georgian buildings surround the broad sweeping market place housing unusual craft and antique shops. The magnificent church dominates the north end of the town and the 14th century Market Cross stands centrepiece.

Bedale has its own museum, and plenty of places to eat and drink, with lots of opportunities to buy tasty goodies to take home with you.

Bedale also benefits from the Wensleydale Railway, which offers regular summer services along Wensleydale - a relaxing way to explore without a car.

What not to miss
St Gregory's - a magnificent medieaval parish church
Thorpe Perrow Arboretum - 85 acres of woodland and falconry
Big Sheep Little Cow - hands on family farm attraction
