Boroughbridge

Adjacent to the A1M and equidistant between Edinburgh and London, the historic town of Boroughbridge is the perfect base for a short break. At the heart of Yorkshire and surrounded by pretty villages, Boroughbridge is within easy driving of the Dales, North York Moors and the coast.

Boroughbridge offers a wide range of holiday accommodation from well-appointed hotels to inns, guest houses, caravan and camping sites, and self-catering holiday cottages. There is a variety of traditional shops selling local produce, and many excellent Tea rooms, Pubs and Restaurants. The meandering River Ure is a prominent feature and with its wide banks and steady flow provides excellent navigation for boats, riverside walks and fishing. A marina provides moorings for private craft and there are boat trips available for the otherwise land-bound traveler.

The town site is thought to have been occupied as far back as the Bronze Age when the rough-hewn millstone grit pillars known as “The Devil’s Arrows” were placed in a row on a north-south axis in a field immediately on the western edge of the present town. At a staggering 18ft, 22ft and 22ft 6in tall, the Devils arrows are an fascinating landmark and certainly not to be missed.
