Kirkby Lonsdale

An historic market town with a unique shopping experience with nearly 60 shops!

WHERE IS BEST FOR ME?

The delightful market town of Kirkby Lonsdale has some lovely riverside and country walks and is set in the lush Lune Valley between the Yorkshire Dales and Lake District National Parks. The view of the river from St. Mary’s churchyard prompted Victorian artist and critic John Ruskin to describe the landscape as some of the loveliest in the country. It became known as Ruskin’s View and inspired a famous painting by Turner.

The beautiful 12th century Devil’s Bridge is a scheduled ancient monument and spans the river with three graceful ribbed arches. In the 13th century the town was granted a charter for fairs and still holds a popular Thursday market.

Kirkby Lonsdale has an excellent range of speciality shops, attractive 17th and 18th century inns and buildings and a fine Norman church. There are golf courses, a bowling green and tennis courts, plus a variety of events.
