Sedbergh

One of the official book towns of England. Book shops galore this is an ideal stop off for any book lover.

WHERE IS BEST FOR ME?

Sedbergh is one of the official Book Towns in England with a vast array of book shops throughout the town for you to get engrossed in.  Not only are there book shops there is an array of independent shops to keep you occupied throughout the day.

Nestling in the foothills of the magnificent Howgill Fells in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, Sedbergh is full of character with cobbled yards and fascinating historic houses, many of which bear the hallmarks of the old knitting and woollen trades.

The town also has several quality galleries, craft workshops, an art and heritage centre, and a fine Norman church dating from around 1130. Sedbergh is well known for its public school founded in 1525 and it is reputed that Bonnie Prince Charlie hid in the chimney of what is now the town chemist during his retreat north in the 18th century.
